Winter might be one of the least loved seasons. It’s cold, it’s bitter, what is there to even do?
It was about 20 degree F today with a super chilly wind, and even though I felt like the wind was cutting through my insides, I can’t help but think about all the things I love about the winter season that the other seasons just don’t deliver on:
I love myself a good sweater. I actually think I own more sweaters than t-shirts. I like when the sleeves cover my hands and feeling snuggled in a hug all day.
Soft, cozy things
Soft blankets, socks, scarves, hoodies, just. I LOVE to sit under a warm blanket just snuggled up. The softer the item the better. If it was socially acceptable to carry a blanket around all the time, I would.
I mean, I could drink this all year round I guess, but this is the season I most enjoy it. Coming in from the cold and sitting under a blanket with a warm cup in your hands. Like who doesn’t want a chocolaty good drink anyway?
It’s cuffing season, and it’s not the engagement ads that tipped me off. Once the end of November hits, cats start to get their winter fur it seems and are just ready to cuddle 24/7. I love when my cats want to be with me, even if they just want me for my warmth. At least it’s my warmth they want.
I normally stay inside when it snows, but I love the way it looks and crunches. It might be better than crunchy leaves. I love seeing the animal footprints in a fresh snow. I love the way it makes everything just look better.
Sales, sales, sales. it’s the end of the year and stores are trying to get rid of their stock. I love all the deals. There are definitely more opportunities for better deals around this time of year.
Besides pink, I don’t really wear bright colors. Darker, cooler, colors suit me better and I love that this is the season for it. Every outfit is just complete because it is now acceptable to not only wear those deep shades, but also to just wear all black. No one questions your black-on-black-on-black in the winter.
Even though I have to push the thoughts of how much energy and hard work was put into putting those lights up, I love seeing how people decorated their houses. I like lights.
Hands down, wintertime has the BEST food options. Pies, cakes, cookies, soups, stews, all the warm good things. I love feeling the warm inside. And I love eating. Which brings me to my last favorite…
I. Love. Baking. I can’t quite cook well, but I can bake. I love mixing everything together and making a mess and watching the dough or whatever rise. The SMELLS. But the best part? Sharing it. Of course I hide a bag just for me, but I actually like giving the treats away and having other people enjoy them too.
This is why I love winter. It is not my favorite season, but I love having it. I couldn’t live anywhere that didn’t have four seasons. The variety makes me enjoy and cherish the weather and changes so much more.
